The American Studies Department at Amherst College is currently engaged in an ongoing effort to transcribe letters from the family Collection. Annotated transcriptions of letters written by Elizabeth Whiting Phelps Huntington to her eleven children are available on their website for public use. Please contact Amherst College Archives and Special Collections to publish or reproduce these materials.

Below is the recording of Professor Karen Sánchez-Eppler’s presentation on the Global Valley Project and her course at Amherst College that revolved around the transcription of Elizabeth Whiting Phelps Huntington’s letters. This was the second installment of PPH’s 2021 speaker series Bridging the Past and Present made possible by a grant from the Bridge Street Fund, a special initiative from Mass Humanities to enable open access to local histories.
