Mission Statement

  • To preserve the historic buildings, grounds, papers, and artifacts related to the Porter‑Phelps‑Huntington family as an educational and cultural resource.
  • To provide access to the Porter‑Phelps‑Huntington buildings, grounds, objects, and collections and to encourage their responsible use.
  • To strengthen the Foundation's holdings by identifying, acquiring, and preserving objects, papers, and property that relate to the history of the Porter‑Phelps‑Huntington family.
  • To enhance public historical understanding through educational and cultural programs utilizing the Foundation's resources.
  • To encourage investigation and interpretation of the history of the family and this Connecticut River Valley site, drawing upon the scholarly and professional community.

Events and Programs of the Museum

The Porter-Phelps-Huntington House is open to the public from May 15 until October 15, from 1:00 to 4:30pm, Saturday through Wednesday (closed Thursday and Friday). It is open mornings by appointment only. For information on tours and special programs please call 413-584-4699. Admission to the house is $5.00 for adults, $1.00 for children under twelve. A guided tour takes approximately one hour.

In addition to tours of the house, the major programs are the Wednesday Folk Traditions, A Perfect Spot of Tea, and Community Days. The grounds may also be rented for your special event. Please call.

The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum is located at 130 River Drive (Route 47 North) in Hadley, Massachusettes, just two miles north of the intersection of Routes 9 and 47.

The Foundation

The Porter Phelps Huntington House was donated with its entire contents to the Porter Phelps Huntington Foundation, Inc. by Dr. and Mrs. James Lincoln Huntington in 1955. The Foundation welcomes contributions from friends and visitors. The house and grounds are the site for a variety of community and educational events throughout the year.

Internships

Through its Museum Assistant program the Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum provides college students the opportunity to participate in and learn about the operations of a small history museum. To receive a detailed job description contact the Museum’s Executive Director.
